Details

Grease seals, also known as oil seals, are sealing rings used to prevent the leakage of lubricants and to protect mechanical components from external contaminants such as dust and dirt. They consist of a metal casing and a rubber sealing lip, sometimes with a spring, which adheres to the rotating shaft. Grease seals, or oil seals, have a dual function: on one hand, they prevent the leakage of lubricants (oil, grease) that ensure the proper operation of moving mechanical parts; on the other hand, they protect these components from the ingress of external agents such as dirt, dust, and moisture, which could compromise their efficiency and lifespan.

Materials

The materials used for manufacturing grease seals may vary, but elastomers (rubber) are often used for the sealing lip, while the metal casing can be made of steel or other materials.

Applications

Grease seals are widely used in various mechanical applications, including gearboxes, hydraulic cylinders, engines, and other components featuring rotating shafts.
